If you are interested in Sustainable Art, this is definitely for you! After several months of team work we feel satisfied to launch our website: www.mexikonst.se
Our mission is to display on the international stage the rich Mexican talent within the art and design space. We seek to show the world the high quality expression of contemporary Mexican artists, and through achieving this, we believe people will be motivated and inspired through art and design to reflect about the different challenges we are facing in todays’ world such as:
THE INTERNATIONALIZATION AND THE DISAPPERANCE OF CULTURES, THE EXCESSIVE USE OF THE VIRTUAL WORLD AND THE DISATTACHING FROM THE REAL WORLD, AS WELL AS SUCH ENVIRONMENTAL CHALLENGES AS THE DEGRADATION OF EARTH AND THE DEVIATION FROM A CLOSE RELATIONSHIP WITH NATURE.
MEXIKONST, in collaboration with the Mexican artist Davit Nava, an emerging contemporary artist from the vicinities of Mexico City, who is committed to spread environmental awareness in his country and worldwide.
Since 2014 Davit integrated his passions for the environment with his passion for art, when he began transforming waste into art. Davit decided to reuse plastic bags, old clothes, and pieces of metal that would have ended up in the trash bin. Today, he transforms these recycled materials it into nature masterpieces.
The history behind the collection Post-Natural Disaster Wood comes from the fact that after a great flood that occurred in a field of Davit’s grandparents, and motivated not to dispose the trees that laid on the ground, Davit transformed the sadness of this natural disaster into something positive. Davit started making wooden sculptures and transformed them into different artistic creations which he named: Post-natural disaster wood sculptures. He decided to bring life back to these trees by transforming them into nature sculptures that could remind people of the nature that existed before the flood. This experience was the beginning of his interest in using only post-natural disaster wood for his artistic creations.
Davit has several collections, among them are: the Birds of Mexico City, the Colibries of North America, and soon a collection of the Pollinators of the World. If you are in Mexico you can visit his collection of Colibries of North America that is now temporarily exhibited in the Museo Nacional de las Culturas del Mundo in the city center of Mexico City.
With a wide collection of art pieces carved out of post-recycled wood, and air hardening clay, Davit uses geometric figures and lines inspired by Mexico’s biodiversity with the main objective of drawing people’s attention back to nature. His hope is that by using art to inspire people to see the beauty and necessity of nature, in the long, he can transform people’s mindsets to take more action in the preservation of nature, and can modify behaviors into more environmentally friendly ones.
In MEXIKONST we are happy to announce that we are soon introducing his artwork in Sweden!
